Moving to New Blog
Starting next week updates and progress of machine #22 will be posted on a new blog.
The new blog is called "The Nally Boys". In addition to updates on the assembly of Machine #22 the blog will feature my other new works, new pieces by David "Big Dutch" Nally and from time to time we will present work by other outsider artists we think you will enjoy.
In addition we will open a shop on etsy.com where you will be able to purchase creations of the Nally boys. The etsy.com shop will also be titled “The Nally Boys”. We will post links to the new blog and the shop in the next few days.
It is finally Spring here in the forest and everything is wonderful.
Hope you are all enjoying the season where you are. Thanks for visiting…..Wm.B.
“Welcome to America” by Wm.B. and a selection of new jewelry by “Big Dutch” will be posted in a few days.

The Beachside Bar Talent Show

The Beachside Bar Talent Show
(Left to right: Miss Lodina, Ruby, and Loretta)
This is a picture of three of the dozens of entrants in the annual
Beachside Bar Talent Show. The Beachside is in Daytona Beach and the event is held the last Saturday night of Bike Week.
The affair was the hot show on Main Street and drew huge crowds, far greater than the bar could hold It was a raucous party and much of it took place on the street outside the bar. I have lots of other images from the talent show and Bike Week, as they are developed I’ll post a few.
MEANWHILE: Working on the lay out and cutting pieces for the jail and fortune telling spinners for #22. Also preparing the lights that will be installed next…..hopefully I’ll be able to get the lights in the lower section with less effort than the top.
It is finally Spring here in the hills ...... it was a long winter. But rather productive, with my faithful companion Pippy by my side ten new pieces were finished this winter and several in process in addition to the big machine. Machine 22 is now about 70% complete......another few months it will be ready for service.

April Fools Day,
Not sure who is in charge of 4/1 tricks but I for one am not laughing. It is snowing here in Mohnton, big flakes and lots of them. But the news isn't all bad......labor figures announced in the morning news indicate that working folks have seen their pay go up 2%. Meanwhile CEO compensation (CEOs get compensation which is always greater than "pay") has gone up 26%.
I guess that is fair.......the CEOs in the US really worked hard to keep workers pay under control so they certainly deserve a fat bonus for their good work. Even with the govt. printing money as fast as they can there still isn't enough to go around.
I don't care how much money rich people have, but I do care when I and my friends need a little cash and there isn't enough left for us. Not to worry.....the "Tea Party" to the rescue.....when they get done with the teachers and the welfare folks everything will be better.
Meanwhile I have to shovel the snow. Happy April all.

The Deregulators
the “Art De-regulators”. Not quite finished but you get the idea. This is a portrait of Wm B. and Big Dutch, the founders of the Pennsylvania Art De-regulators. They are the protectors of all Pa. artists They deal with and eliminate all the rules, requirements, traditions, trends, limitations, parameters, qualifications and assorted red tape that limit artists creativity. They have been known to deal harshly with art critics and art judges. It seems they have the attitude that artists can do anything they want.
Disclaimer:
And yes, some of my critics have advised me to avoid painting. Ignoring their advise I keep painting. The trouble with painting is that you don’t really have a choice. If you are a painter you know what I am talking about. The desire to paint has nothing to do with ability to actually paint. Sadly the ability to really paint well does not always equal the desire to paint. So what you end up with is folks who can paint that don’t…..and folks that can’t paint and do.
For years I did not paint because I am not a “good” painter, but I’m over it. I’m never going to be a “good” painter but I am going to paint anyway. The fact is when I paint I feel “good”. Mission accomplished.
Meanwhile:
Progress on the big machine continues……the bottom power compartment is ready for assembly. I’ll take a few pics along the way. The fortune telling feature is next after the power. There will also be two “secret” compartments to hide stuff.
And:
The retail shop on etsy.com will open in mid-April.

New Photo of No. 22
Shop will open soon

The retail outlet for the art works of Big Dutch and Wm. B.
will be open for biz in the next two weeks or so. For the grand opening Big Dutch has made some of his special jewelry and included are two pairs of cigarette earrings. Wm B. is featuring the much sought after and always popular "Time is Short" T shirt.
Tell your friends, tell your rich uncle. But remember this is not a regular gallery, our jewelry is
not like jewelry you get at the mall in a "jewelry store". Big Dutch makes the jewelry down in the basement......real mojo is what you get, not the pretend mojo you see in the jewelry ads on TV.
In the spirit of fair play when we price our work we will have a" regular price", rich collectors and well paid working folks will be charged the "regular price". We will also have a "special discount sale price" for people who are not rich or who have a lousy paying job. The web address for the shop will be posted here when all is ready. Thanks.

TRUE LOVE
True LoveNot sure what went wrong here…..maybe things just got too hot. Or maybe it wasn’t hooked up right. That is the way it is in real life…..you never know till your throw the switch.
World News:
I try not to watch the news too much but lately the events in North Africa have me tuning in more than usual. Other news... the root cause of our economic woes has finally been identified. All this time I thought it was because of all the stupid poor people that bought houses they could not afford, well I was wrong. We now know the real problem is the school teachers and their unions that are bleeding America dry. Who knew ? Once we get these teachers under control `things will be much better.

BEHIND SCHEDULE

NOW MONTHS BEHIND SCHEDULE
When I started Machine 22 last Valentine’s day the plan was to have it finished in September, more or less.
Not finished. But progress has been made, the top section is ready for assembly. The tubes need to be fixed in place and then a bit of finish up painting. The small hearts will be moved up a couple inches.
By Valentine’s day I should have the lights wired properly (they are only temporarily rigged now) and ready to switch on.
It has taken months to get the lights figured out but last night I did a test lighting and I must confess this is the coolest thing I ever made. It will take a little work but as soon as I have a good picture of the machine lit up I’ll post it. It looks much different with the lights on. The complications and all the rework and restarts were worth dealing with.
Meanwhile…..freezing rain, snow, sleet and more freezing rain are on the menu for today. All on top of the foot of snow we got last week things will get ugly by morning. I’ll get this picture posted now just in case the power goes out, there is ice everywhere and on everything.
Thanks for visiting…….stay home today……stay warm.

Eat your vegetables...or else.

EAT YOUR VEGETABLES
What we should eat has become a hot political topic. Don’t be distracted, don’t even listen…..just do what your grandmother told you to do. Eat your vegetables !
Or else. Sooner or later all the sugar, salt, fat, and the secret ingredients will catch up to you. And when it does I guarantee that you will hate that part.
I have this piece hanging next to my dinner table to remind and warn me what will happen if I don’t eat my vegetables.
Even if you break all your New Year’s resolutions, don’t lose weight, save more money or quit this or that, if you just eat your vegetables you will be better.

CAN'T HURT ME

Can’t Hurt Me
This piece is somewhat the same idea as the “wild heart” but this heart has no desire to get out from behind bars. Armored with metal and behind a heavy screen this is a lost and lonely heart. Beyond caution this heart has erected barriers that are limiting in ways we can’t imagine. As closed eyes see nothing a closed heart feels nothing. This is a common condition and it is self inflicted. No one can close your heart, they may give you plenty of reasons to close up shop but in fact we do it to ourselves. It may be that this is the biggest mistake we can make. Queen Elizabeth of England once said “Grief is the price we pay for love”. If that is all love costs it seems a fair price.
The picture is not very good…..my camera is limited and it is tough to get good shots of the several lighted pieces I have been making. I plan to borrow a friends Nikon one of these days to make the photos but the project is not high on my list of things to do.
Also posted are pictures of Pippy visiting with the neighborhood cat who stops by for a free meal almost everyday. The morning shot reminds me of “red sky in the morning, sailors take warning”…..and sure enough the final picture taken the next day shows the results of the storm we were warned of.

The Wild Heart

This heart is all dressed up but rather than a night on the town it’s locked in “protective” custody. Turned loose a wild heart can create or get into situations with unexpected and at times disastrous results. The explanations for these events range from “one thing leads to another” to the old faithful “the devil made me do it”.
No matter the reason, once turned loose a wild heart faces all manner of risk and danger.. Injuries that can last an hour or a lifetime can occur anytime and without warning. Insurance to protect you from heartbreak does not exist, and there are no guarantees or promises you can depend on. No surprise than a lot of hearts are in hiding, safe from injury.
True the walls that we put around our heart may protect us from injury but the protective barriers also keep out anything good that may come our way. While we avoid the things we fear, we also lose the opportunity to experience the things we desire.
What to do? I have no idea except to hope for the best.
FYI: In Mohnton today we are enjoying a chilly 19 degrees and snow that may last all day. Also enjoying a steaming cup of Cuban coffee, a wonderful view of fresh snow, and a warm calico cat.
Hope you are enjoying your day, thanks for visiting.
